MTN Khemani Cycling Classic 2024
A Celebratory Milestone
On September 14, 2024, the MTN Khemani Cycling Classic marked its 10th anniversary with a remarkable event held in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). The race attracted riders from six nations, underscoring its growing importance in the cycling world. The RKC Collective team made the trek to Swaziland, joining competitors in what proved to be an outstanding showcase of cycling talent.
Exceptional Organisation and Ideal Conditions
This year’s race was distinguished by its flawless organization and perfectly maintained roads, offering a superb setting for a challenging course. The event demonstrated how a well-executed race can elevate the cycling experience, and the MTN Khemani Cycling Classic delivered on all fronts.
RKC Collective’s Strong Performance
Keanan Roodt was a standout performer, displaying impressive form with aggressive racing tactics. He joined his teammate, Rohan du Plooy, to bridge to the breakaway group and play a key role in establishing the crucial winning move. Their teamwork was a highlight of the day.
Another noteworthy team was TEG from South Africa, who raced strategically, marking attacks and capitalizing on the course's challenges. Their efforts, alongside the RKC Collective's, showcased the competitive spirit of the event.
The Decisive Duo
The race’s pivotal moment came during the KOM segment on the return leg, where the breakaway group began to fragment. Keanan Roodt and Warren Moolman from TEG emerged from the splits, forming a duo that would dictate the final outcome. For the last 30 kilometers, the two riders contested fiercely, with Roodt attacking multiple times. Ultimately, Moolman secured the win in a two-up sprint, demonstrating the high level of competition and skill involved.
The Importance of Supporting Local Races
Events like the MTN Khemani Cycling Classic are crucial for the development of local cycling talent. The race’s support for riders through substantial prize money, quality accommodation, and overall hospitality is commendable. Such support not only enhances the experience for participants but also helps in raising the profile of the sport locally. More races with similar levels of organization and support are needed to foster growth and opportunities for cyclists.
Looking Ahead
The RKC Collective is thrilled with Keanan Roodt’s progress this season. His performance at the MTN Khemani Cycling Classic highlights his development and potential in the sport. As the season continues, we eagerly anticipate more achievements from Keanan and the team.
Congratulations to all participants, and a special mention to Warren Moolman for his impressive victory. The MTN Khemani Cycling Classic has set a high standard for future events, and we look forward to seeing more local races rise to meet this level of excellence.
